Why I'm saying NO to PRIMARK... for now

Now there's no doubt PRIMARK is one of the biggest and most popular shops around. And since they've opened up in Omagh they've taken a substantial amount of my doe! Ta very much guys! But lately I've seen an increase in price and a decrease in quality! Not to mention the sizes! what's that all about? My outfit from last Friday for instance the crop top was a size 12, the trousers (more about them later) were 14 and the wrap crop with sleeves (not really sure what its supposed to be called) was a size 16! now I no longer actually care what size my clothes are because I would rather have better fitting and comfortable clothes than be worrying about the size, and who really knows or even cares what size you're wearing? I know I don't go about asking people. This means that literally every item of clothing you look at in PRIMARK you have to select 3 (or 4) sized to traipse to the changing room to try on, and even then you mightn't have what fits, because I have no idea what shape or figure they have in mind when they're designing said clothes! (this isn't just Primark this goes for a whole bunch of shops lately) Not to mention that when you see something you like the look of, search for your size, your heart jumps a little beat of happiness when you spot it, only to take it out and realise its a completely different size than what the hanger says! this makes me cry a little inside! and on more than one occasion I've just given up and walked out of the shop!
So I purchased a little top about 2 months ago, it was in the sale and it was £3, last week I was in a different store and seen the same top, it was full price! This happened with a pair of jeggings I was wearing, my friend loved them, so when we were in the nearest store we searched for them and low and behold thy were full price! while I was In said shop this year I checked a few different things and noticed the same! a lot of clothes I knew I had seen in one store were full price in a different store.
Soooo back to the trousers from Friday night!!! Wore once super comfy baggy wide leg trousers! perfect for that hot spell of weather where you need to be cool but also want to be covered up! Decided to wear them out on Saturday night too! While getting ready I happened to look down and to my surprise (don’t know why I was so surprised this isn’t the first time) I seen a lovely big tear down the inside seam of one leg, then with a closer inspection I noticed an outside seam had came away too! Now I totally would have seen through this if they were tight fitting and they tore with the stretch. this totally ruined the start of my night. but give my cousin some entertainment as she watched me throw a wobbler!
When I got to look at the trousers later it looks they basically weren't sewn right at all. as is when hey were been sewn they were too close to the edge of the fabric. unfortunately I have no receipt I can find and I'm pretty sure the label from the trousers is in England still. but I'm very fortunate to have a dressmaker for my Mum. So I will be able to wear them again. its just very frustrating that yet again I have seen something I liked, searched about until I got my selected sizes, traipsed to the changing rooms. fell in love with it, wore it once and its ruined!
I've also bought jewellery that has just about got the length of home before its fell apart. In December I bought a single pair of earrings from an independent shop and the same day bought a card of earrings from Primark. Can you guess which one is still around today? I think you know! the Primark set have slowly disintegrated and my trustee favourites are still holding strong. I've often wondered was this because I knew I paid so much more for one than the other, but I Know I haven't been overly careful with one and not the other.
This is just my musings and thoughts lately about how I feel Primark is in fact false economy, and why I'm making a conscious effort to
1. Shop smarter and not be fooled by what appears to be a bargain.
2. Shop local and more independent and visit all the hidden gems our local towns have!
3. Shop in charity shops more! My sisters always have the best clothes and they always get the best picks in charity shops. not to mention the books I can pick up for only £1 and just donate back when I'm finished! therefore making me feel like I'm doing a little good.
So that is why I'm saying no to Primark, for now! we all know how tempting it is to pop in for a 'quick nosey' when we are passing. So don't shoot me if you see me with a primark bag any time soon!
